Hello, 2019! This year I’ll be celebrating my 40th birthday. When I’m not plucking gray hairs from my crown, I get excited about 40. What will this year bring? My dad’s mom died when she was just 39 and he always reminds us kids “you lived longer than my mom. It’s all a bonus from here on out.” Am I taking advantage of that “bonus”? Am I growing and being challenged? Am I building community and serving others? How can I do everything I want to do when I am a stay-at-home homeschooling mom of 4? Books! Reading has always been my favorite past-time. Who can resist a good literary adventure? Since becoming a parent, my reading time has suffered greatly. In 2019 I’m changing that up. Wanna take a trip around the world and through history and inventions with me? I’m hosting a 40th birthday reading challenge! All you have to do is hang out with me on Instagram and right here on this blog. Use #40books40years and come hang out with me on Instagram and right here on this blog. Let’s discuss and debate, laugh and cry and celebrate this bonus year! You in?
I’ve selected topics starting with 1979 to celebrate my annual trips around the sun. Some topics are based on my personal life milestones while others are based on events happening in that year around the world. I challenge you to read voices other than your own and use this experience to expand horizons and challenge preconceptions. Let’s talk about what surprises us, what perplexes us, what blows our ever-lovin minds. You can see my list of books here. Share yours in the comments below. I’ll be writing reviews of each of these books and expanding a little bit more on why I chose that topic as the year progresses. Official start date is Jan. 1st. Can’t wait to read with you!
