A friend recently sent me a code for a free month of Ipsy. I’ve seen these ads on Facebook but always thought it was a bit silly. (What was I thinking?!?!) I’ve always loved trying new products. When my babies were little I tried lots of strollers, sippy cups, diapers, etc. and I had opinions about them all! 🙂 Why would make-up and skin care products be any different? Although I love trying new things I often feel that it will bust my budget and what if I don’t like the product? You can’t really sell a half-used tube of lipstick, you know? Enter Ipsy! Ta-da! What took me so long to get on this bandwagon? So here it is – my Ipsy Glam Bag Review November 2017!
Each month your products will come in a small cosmetic bag. This month is so cute. The bluish-green is accented by a deeper blue. This is a perfect little bag for stashing fall must-haves. Tucked inside the bag are 5 products. When you sign up to receive the Ipsy Glam Bags you will select make-up colors, skin type, etc so the products you receive will be somewhat personalized. I loved October’s Glam Bag products and was so excited to get this month’s. It did not disappoint.
Okay, first of all – double points for you if you knew there was a Lisa Frank cosmetics line! Technically, it is a collaboration between Lisa Frank and Glamour Dolls. The packaging takes me back to grade school. My daughters were so excited when they saw this come out of the Ipsy Glam Bag because they have Lisa Frank coloring books. I received the shade Bitten & Bronzed. It is a matte bronzer. When I saw the color it at first appeared a bit dark and too brown. I would have never selected this shade on my own. However, when I tried the product on I actually really liked it. It isn’t as shimmery as bronzer might be in the summer but this makes a great choice for autumn colors. It is vegan and cruelty-free. You can build up the colors as well but I didn’t need to add a lot to this. The other great thing about Ipsy is they give you tips for wearing and using these products. Learn something new every day! 🙂
I realize this might be blasphemy for stay-at-home moms everywhere but I have never used dry shampoo before. (gasp!) I know! Friends all rave about it and say they can’t live without it. My hair happened to be a-few-days-from-washed when I received my Ipsy Glam Bag this month, so . . . what the heck? Let’s give it a go! I received the Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo in trial size. The smell is quite lovely, actually, and seemed to last all day. I didn’t notice a super difference but after reading a bit more about dry shampoo (I’m a nerd, what can I say?) it seems that it is best to use it when your hair is feeling oily or greasy. My hair is pretty dry so could really go days and days without being greasy. I didn’t notice any stickiness or powdery residue and all in all think this is probably a great product – just not for my hair/head type.
Next out of the bag was a coral blush by tarte. This is a 12-hour blush made of Amazonian clay. I am pretty particular when it comes to blushes, foundations or other powders on my face. I have dry skin and some powder-y make-up products can exacerbate the feeling that my face is cracking. (pleasant, right?) I was really surprised with this blush. It is creamy and really does last all day. It goes on smoothly with a brush and is easy to build up the color if you want to have a deeper shade. This made my skin feel almost silky. I’ve never used this brand before but I would definitely consider it in the future! Good job, Ipsy!
IT Cosmetics CC + Cream with SPF 50 was next out of the bag. This is essentially a tinted anti-aging moisturizer. I received the light shade. It is moisturizing and goes on smoothly. The package says to reapply this every 2 hours and to get the most of the SPF benefit in the sun I suppose that would be necessary. As I’m sitting in cold, gloomy South Dakota, however, it lasted for most of the day. This is very light coverage. It is definitely not a full coverage foundation which is great for casual and everyday use. Another great choice! (Complete side note – the inactive ingredients includes snail secretion filtrate. What the heck is that?!?)
Lip Gloss Stain
Yes, I’m totally saving the best for last. I love red lipstick. Seriously. A-DORE it! How did Ipsy know? (well, because I told them but still . . . ) In this Glam Bag I received Manna Kadar Liplocked Stain in the shade of Pinot Noir. I mean, they totally get me. This shade is gorgeous! It is the perfect shade of red – not bright orange-y red, not deep ruby red – but just a gorgeous wine red (hence the name, maybe?). It is super smooth and hydrating. I applied this and then kind of forgot about it and ate some popcorn. The color remained . . . and didn’t transfer to my popcorn! A full-size tube is just $24 and, in my opinion, this is totally worth it. The color alone is worth that money. Know what else is great about Ipsy? When you receive your Glam Bag you also receive special offers and discounts to purchase those products. This month Glam Baggers (is that a term?) have a code for 20% off Manna Kadar cosmetics. I’m heading off to fill up my cart now!
This is my second Glam Bag and I love this. It is so much fun and for $10 a month Ipsy offers great value to try out new products before buying a full-size version and risking a waste of money. I’m not sure what took me so long!
