The Spring 2017 color palette is out in full force. I, for one, am ecstatic to see these bright and bold colors. It has been a
miserable long winter. Whether it is jewelry, clothing or home decor the colors of the season will soon be everywhere. Greenery is the technical color of the year but others may play a more prominent role in our fashions. Mix and match the spring 2017 color palette to really set yourself apart from the crowd. Below are a few color combinations and tips for wearing them well. For even more ideas be sure to join us in The Parlor.
Greenery: Color of the Year
Our color of the year for the spring 2017 color palette is full of energy. It is a color that embraces life and adventure and healthy attitudes. There are many ways to pair greenery with the other colors. Are you feeling beachy? Mix it with shades of blue and yellow. Feeling earthy? Pair it with a a toned down brown or blush color. Combine textures and fabrics both of your clothing and accessories to complete your look. Some of my customers have said green is not a good color for them and I totally understand that. (me and yellow? we look like death warmed over.) However, if you really like this color use it in small details or a multi-colored accessory. There are ways to utilize the color without feeling/looking like a sick amphibian.
Blue: The bomb-diggity!
Blue dominates the spring 2017 color palette with three different shades available.
Lapis Blue is strong and confident and sexy. It is brighter than a navy but still gives a dark backdrop. This shade has an internal glow that radiates to the person wearing it. It can be worn powerfully with other strong colors in the palette or can be muted with the paler neutrals.
Island Paradise is an aqua shade of blue and is refreshing, crisp and perfect for the season. It pairs well with greenery, flame orange or the other shades of blue. This particular hue of aqua blue has green undertones which can be played up in your jewelry and clothing.
Niagara Blue is perhaps the most versatile on the palette this season. It can be paired with almost any other shade and is reminiscent of a denim blue. It invokes laid back and easy going styles. Make a statement with this color by choosing unusual fabrics, textures or jewelry details. Personally, I love the crispness when this color is mixed with a pure white.
Pale Dogwood: The darling of the spring 2017 color palette
This blush-like shade is soft, feminine and flirty. It can also be paired well with stronger tones, such as lapis blue, to give a softer appearance. Due to the pastel-ish (can I make up that word?) feel this is a fantastic color to utilize as we transition from the darker colors of winter to the brighter colors of spring.
Flame Orange: My Favorite!
Flame orange is bright and bold and fiery (hence the name?). It looks fabulous with any of the shades of blue but can also be toned down with the neutrals in the spring 2017 color palette. As with greenery, this will not suit everyone’s skin tones so use it in small doses if that happens to be you. Try mixing it in a necklace or a belt or a handbag. This color is strong and confident and really allows you to embrace your own magnificence as well.
The other colors in the palette include yellow, browns, grays. My personal philosophy is that you can really wear anything with confidence. Understanding how the spring 2017 color palette fits together, however, might increase your confidence a bit.
