By now, you have likely seen the spring/summer colors for 2016. As a palette, they are lighter and have a playful appeal. The colors look fun and fresh on a color swatch but how do you mix and match them to create different looks and styles?
The coveted title of “Pantone Color of the Year” is awarded to two colors this year – Serenity Blue and Rose Quartz. These may take you back a few decades to a popular country blue color scheme.
However, when paired with the other colors of the season these pastels take on a new life. Here are three ways to mix and match with this popular blue. Serenity Blue is a light, pastel shade. It can be worn as a neutral and works great to highlight other colors as well. When paired with this light buttery yellow it creates a whimsical effect.
When accessorizing an outfit use these contrasting colors to make your accessories pop from your outfit. Alternatively, if your clothing is a mix and match of these colors, use multi-colored whimsically designed jewelry to pull the outfit together.
See You in My Dreams – Multi would be a perfect option to evoke a playful look.
A second way to utilize serenity blue is to use a color-on-color approach. Also in the palette this season is Snorkel Blue. Snorkel is a deeper shade and will complement Serenity without overpowering it. Instead, it creates a deep, crisp line to create refinement and a statement.
Using two shades of the same color can be used to create a cohesive look. If using these two shades in your clothing, a mixed-metal statement necklace could create a strong statement. Pairing these colors with a crisp white accessory or adding a pop of color such as a bright yellow or orange would also be effective – depending on the look you desire.
Fan of the Tribe would make an excellent choice for this color-on-color palette. (Who am I kidding? This necklace looks amazing no matter your outfit!)
Using a bright color, such as chartreuse, will create an entirely different look when paired with Serenity Blue. This color is bright and bold and crisp. It creates a strong, yet playful, look.
The chartreuse color could be in the clothing or as the accessory to just provide a pop of fun.
The brightness of the color gives a crisp feeling as opposed to the whimsy with the light buttery yellow. Both colors are fun but are used to create different moods.
The Summer of Love hippie headband is a perfect use of a bright color just for a pop of fun.
